In 1993 Flanders and the Netherlands already were the Guest of Honour of the Frankfurter Buchmesse. Back then, a first literary wave washed ashore in Germany and left behind many literary treasures on the shore. Authors from Flanders and the Netherlands were launched internationally. Over two decennia later the time has come for a new wave. Many new voices in all literary genres – fiction, non-fiction, children’s and youth literature, comics and poetry – are itching to be discovered.

The literary launch for the year of being Guest of Honour will be given in March at litCologne and the Leipzig Book Fair. German readers can already look forward to 250 new translations in German and to 120 authors travelling to Frankfurt and all of Germany. We are facing a richly filled cultural year: apart from authors the focus is also on artists, theatre makers and the creative industries in seven key cities: Cologne, Leipzig, Münster, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Karlsruhe, but also in many other locations in Germany, the Netherlands and Flanders. All of that culminates into an unforgettable pinnacle in October with the Dutch-Flemish presentation at the Frankfurter Buchmesse.

But you do not need to wait for that. Be grasped by the fresh, literary wind blowing through Germany already now and by the grasping dynamics that originate here!
